A Night of Celebration, A Vision is Born
Vachellia was founded in 2017 by Thabiso Mogodi, with Siyabonga Sangquthu as co-founder. ” The idea to start Vachellia was a drunk idea on a night out celebrating with friends. I couldn’t help but notice that there weren’t any local premium quality spirits on offer that night- so that night an idea was born to create a vodka brand of exceptional quality that would compete on a global mainstream level”.
We managed to start the brand from personal savings, with Thabiso working as a E-hailing driver and Siya working for a Telecommunications company. We also got a lot of support from close family and friends. It took us 2 years to develop the recipe & brand identity, and to put together the financial resources to start production of our first batch. Since then, we haven’t looked back. Today, Vachellia is a 2x International Award-Winning Vodka brand with an exciting future ahead!
A Glimpse into the Name: Vachellia's African Inspiration
During the early development stages of our vodka, we didn’t have a name for our brand, so we code named it ‘X Vodka “. We might not have had a name, but what we wanted to embody was crystal clear. We aimed to venture into uncharted territories, to pioneer a brand that resonates with Africa's soul, and to create a legacy that our continent could proudly claim as its own. Our ambition was grand, and our purpose was simple - craft a world-class vodka that could stand tall on any stage and proclaim, "This is Africa's innovation!"
This is when Siya mentioned how people from all over the world travel to our continent to come experience our amazing cultures, wildlife & nature and that’s where the idea came to draw inspiration from nature for our brand name:
Derived from the Vachellia Karroo, an indigenous Acacia tree found in Southern Africa, our name embodies the spirit of endurance and adaptability. Just as this tree thrives in challenging conditions, so does our commitment to crafting exceptional vodka. Every sip of Vachellia carries the essence of Africa, a nod to the majestic continent that inspires us.
We don’t only carry the Vachellia tree in our name, but this majestic tree is also wrapped around the bottle of our handcrafted spirit. To top it off, you get the Africa on the neck of our bottle, which is a visual testament to our roots!
The Craftsmanship Behind Every Drop
Vachellia's journey begins with the careful selection of locally sourced sugarcane. Unlike common grains, sugarcane's inherent fermentability allows us to avoid additives and enzymes. This choice ensures that our vodka remains pure, efficient, and exceptionally smooth.
After our 7 times distillation process, we bottle and label each bottle by hand and each bottle bares the name of the the person who bottled it, making each bottle truly unique.
